2025 Challenge ~ Starting a Blog

Welcome to my little rook of the internet!

Starting a blog is something I have thought about for quite literally months now but have have always used one excuse or another to stop me from starting. I have used a thousand and one reasons like it is too time consuming; I do not know what to talk about; or even that I am too dyslexic to write blog articles.… These all ultimately boil down to one thing.

I am afraid to start, because I expect to fail.

I have been so consumed my whole life about failing that I am always too scared to even try. But, the older I get the more I realise that not trying at all, is worse than trying and failing. So now I am now going to push myself well and truly out of my comfort zone and get stuck into this blog!

As part of my 2025 challenge, starting a blog is the first thing I want to try. I want to use this as a turning point and prove to myself that I can define my own success. I do not care how well read the articles become or even if my writing never gets seen at all. I only care that I enjoyed the process and had the opportunity to learn new skills and get back to writing.

Growing up with very strong dyslexia (to put it nicely) I really struggled with reading and writing. It is hard having all your ideas trapped inside your head with no means of conveying them. So, learning English or a least how to write properly has been one of the most challenging things I have faced in my life – something that continues to this day. However, as my abilities have developed, and especially in recent years, my love for writing has grown. It has become a very powerful tool for settling all of the racing thoughts inside my head and has given me an outlet. I like to think this blog will become another form of self expression, a way of releasing my thoughts and creativity.

I like giving myself the opportunity to get stuck into a range of different things which is why I do not want to focus this blog too specifically on any one subject. I plan to use it to not only document my 2025 challenge but to also explore some of my other passions. Over the next few months, I want to try create more of my own recipes and this blog seems like a great place to store my little digital cook book. I also love travelling and I want to use this blog to document my adventures around the world and the tips I pick up along the way. As a true geography nerd, I have a deep interest in all things sustainability related and as I grow and learn more about sustainable and minimalist practices I want to share them in hopes of creating a world that will be at least a little bit better than the one we inherited. Finally, I am a big research enthusiast! Since studying for my undergraduate and masters degrees I have longed for the change to get stuck into research again. I hope this blog will be the excuse I have needed to start learning and exploring new topics again.

This is not all though… as I develop and I am exposed to new experiences I hope my passions will expand too. So I want to leave growing space for Silver Sky Studios to evolve and spread into new areas. I am not sure yet what this blog will look like a year from now, let alone 5 years from now, but I know it will be an exciting journey regardless!

So welcome to my first challenge of 2025! Setting up this blog has been an fun and tedious process but I have already learnt so much about web design – something I never thought I would learn about…

Join me in 2 weeks and see if I will be able to avoid breaking a leg as I go hurtling down a mountain on skis and see if maybe I should have just stayed at the bottom drinking hot chocolate!
